KT Partners with RAPA to Provide 5G Device Verification Environment

KT announced on the 14th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Radio Research Agency of Korea (RAPA) to provide a mobile communication device verification environment to revitalize the national industry. Through this agreement, KT and RAPA will offer a 5G device verification environment to small and medium-sized manufacturers.

KT, as the world’s first to commercialize 5G and the only domestic provider of 5G Standalone (SA) mode, has also accumulated device verification capabilities. Based on this, KT will provide RAPA with software that can automatically verify devices according to the developed device test standards and test scenarios. Additionally, KT plans to continuously update the device verification environment with improvements reflecting domestic and international standard evolutions and KT’s specification revisions.

As 5G application expands in industrial fields, various types of devices beyond smartphones are being developed. Small and medium-sized manufacturers have faced difficulties in configuring test scenarios under restrictive conditions due to the high cost of properly establishing device development verification environments.

KT’s systematized 5G verification environment will be provided to small and medium-sized manufacturers through RAPA. It is expected that as the use by these manufacturers becomes active, the efficiency of domestic device development verification will improve and device quality will be enhanced.

Small and medium-sized manufacturers will verify their devices in the environment provided by KT and receive test reports from RAPA. These reports can later be used in KT’s internal verification process when adopting devices from the manufacturers, thereby simplifying the commercialization procedures.

Song Jeong-su, RAPA’s Executive Vice President, stated, “With RAPA’s experience in providing technical support to companies and collaboration with KT, we expect to greatly contribute to industrial revitalization by supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to launch products quickly.”

Kim Byung-kyun, Head of KT’s Device Business Division (Senior Executive Director), said, “KT has played a leading role in the development of 5G technology, and we will share our long-accumulated experience and technology to coexist with small and medium-sized enterprises and lead industrial advancement.”
