Nakdonggang Regional Office Discusses Enhancing Flood Season Disaster Management Awareness and Response Capabilities
The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office of the Ministry of Environment held the 'Nakdong River Basin Flood Management Related Agencies Workshop' on the 11th at the main auditorium in Dalseong-gun, Daegu.
At this workshop, discussions were held on improving disaster management awareness and response capabilities during this year's flood season, as well as establishing cooperation measures among related agencies.
Officials from related agencies involved in flood response in the Nakdong River Basin, including the Nakdong River Flood Control Office, Korea Meteorological Administration (Busan and Daegu), local governments (Busan, Daegu, Ulsan, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam), Korea Water Resources Corporation, and Korea Rural Community Corporation attended.

During the workshop, results from flood-vulnerable area surveys were shared, along with flood damage prevention and response plans for the Nakdong River Basin. Past flood damage cases and causes were analyzed, and measures to prevent recurrence were discussed.
The Busan Regional Meteorological Administration provided forecasts for this year's rainy season and characteristics of summer precipitation. The Nakdong River Flood Control Office and Korea Water Resources Corporation explained dam operation plans for the flood season, including 24-hour prior notice of water discharge and downstream dam monitoring to prevent flood damage.
Park Jae-gyu, Director of the River Division, stated, "Due to the development of El Ni?o this summer, heavy rainfall is expected mainly in the southern regions, so thorough preparation is needed more than ever to prevent flood damage."
He added, "I hope this workshop will serve as an opportunity for related agencies managing flood control in the Nakdong River Basin to actively cooperate and continuously communicate for effective flood response."
