The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 12th that it will hold a commemorative ceremony at the JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to mark the 22nd 'Food Safety Day.'
At this ceremony, a medal will be awarded to CEO Lee Byung-hak of Nongshim for actively participating in the sodium reduction campaign and contributing to the development of the food industry through win-win management with small and medium-sized partner companies. Certificates of appreciation will be presented to Professor Jeon Woo-jin of Chonnam National University, who helped develop national food safety policy directions and establish development strategies, and to Executive Director Jung Seung-hyun of Ottogi, who made active efforts to improve food safety management levels.
Additionally, at this ceremony, regulatory agencies from China, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Singapore attending the Asia-Pacific Forum of Regulatory Authorities (APFRAS), along with representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CODEX), will participate, providing an opportunity for direct communication with food industry practitioners to resolve difficulties in domestic food exports.
A promotional hall and experience space have also been prepared. Visitors can explore the digital food platform offering various food safety information via QR codes, the SAFE-24 imported food electronic screening system where digital automatic screening is conducted, and other digital-based food safety management systems. They can also experience the smart HACCP system that automatically records and stores critical control point (CCP) monitoring data in real-time to prevent tampering, and the hazardous food sales blocking system that automatically stops the sale of hazardous foods at store checkouts.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has designated the two weeks before and after Food Safety Day as Food Safety Week (May 7?21) and will hold various events to raise awareness of the importance of food safety.
During Food Safety Week, efforts will be made to spread food safety awareness through radio and social networking services (SNS), and on-site campaigns and talk concerts will be held with consumer organizations to promote key policies of the Ministry, such as expiration dates. Coffee trucks and baseball stadium electronic billboards will be used to communicate directly with the public and promote the importance of food safety.
Oh Yu-kyung, Commissioner of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, stated, "To effectively respond to the rapidly advancing changes in science and technology, we will promote the digital transformation of food administration, strengthen global cooperation in the food sector, and foster a safe future food industry to become a leading nation in food safety."
