Jo Eung-cheon "Resignation from Assembly Member Position Is a Decision for Kim Nam-guk Himself"

"Stock Day Trading is Boxing, Coin Day Trading is UFC"

Regarding the ruling party's call for Kim Nam-guk, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is embroiled in a multi-billion coin controversy, to 'resign from his parliamentary seat,' Democratic Party lawmaker Cho Eung-cheon drew a line by saying, "It is a matter for him to decide."

On the 12th, during KBS's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs,' when asked by the host, "Do you think, based on the facts revealed so far, that expulsion or withdrawal from the party is necessary?" Cho replied, "Resignation from the parliamentary seat... no, withdrawal or expulsion?" and then added, "As for withdrawal or expulsion, the facts have not yet been confirmed since the investigation just started yesterday, so we need to confirm the facts before making a judgment."

He continued, "Even resignation from the parliamentary seat?although the ruling party is talking about it, and I briefly got ahead of myself?it's a decision for Representative Kim himself," adding, "Our party cannot force 'You must resign your parliamentary seat.' Then how can the opposing party force a member of another party to resign?"

However, he took a firm stance regarding Kim's coin investment during his committee duties. Cho said, "What is an oath? It is a public promise to the people that a public official will comply with laws and faithfully perform their duties. It carries significant meaning," and added, "But if he engaged in short-term trading while the committee was in session, that shows he did not prioritize national interests and is far from faithfully performing his duties."

He further stated, "I usually tell people around me, 'If you get addicted to short-term stock trading, you cannot perform your duties properly. So you have to quit. If you know someone like that, it's better to exclude them,'" and added, "If short-term stock trading is like boxing, I think coin trading is more like UFC (mixed martial arts) because there are no opening or closing times."

Cho said, "There are no upper or lower price limits. There is little distinction between good and bad news. It's basically a gambling table where you bet money against money. And he put in nearly 1 billion won," and added, "Then wouldn't you want to keep watching how it goes? When it goes up, endorphins kick in and you get excited; when it falls, you worry and get discouraged. That means he cannot properly perform his duties."
