Officials from Cambodia (Ratanakiri Province, Mondulkiri Province) Health Department Visit Gangdong-gu Health Center
Benchmarking Maternal and Child Health Projects such as Seoul Baby Health First Step Project and Pregnancy Preparation Support Project for Men and Women
Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced that following last year's visit by high-level officials from El Salvador, high-ranking officials from Cambodia's Health Department of Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces visited Gangdong-gu Health Center on the 10th to observe the health environment and operational programs of Gangdong-gu.
This visit was conducted as part of the KOICA-supported maternal and child health program for underserved areas in northeastern Cambodia. The delegation visited Gangdong-gu, which actively promotes childbirth and child-rearing friendly policies, to share experiences and strengthen capabilities in maternal and child health fields such as the Seoul Baby Health First Step Project and the Pregnancy Preparation Support Project for Men and Women.
A briefing session was held to explain excellent projects including the current operation status of Gangdong-gu Health Center, the 'Moving Classroom, Healthy School' project which creates a school environment to promote healthy lifestyle practices among students, and the 'Health 100-Year Counseling Center' where professional nurses reside at community service centers to prevent chronic diseases and manage residents' health.
Additionally, the delegation toured key health center facilities such as the nation's first Dementia Family Support Center, Health Management Center, Children's Health Park, and Physical Rehabilitation Treatment Room, taking the opportunity to observe Korea's public health system firsthand.
During the visit, they showed deep interest in Gangdong-gu's health projects by asking various questions about ▲Korean medical system ▲Korea's treatment direction to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates ▲Gangdong-gu's key projects to improve accessibility to health services.
Furthermore, this meeting with the underserved northeastern region of Cambodia is expected to widely promote Gangdong-gu's excellent projects and enhance its status. The district plans to activate exchanges with other overseas cities as well.
Health Center Director Choi Jung-soo stated, “Gangdong-gu ranks first in total fertility rate among Seoul's autonomous districts. We hope that benchmarking our district’s excellent maternal and child health projects will help improve accessibility to maternal and child health services in Cambodia,” and added, “This meeting with Cambodia will be an opportunity for mutual development.”
