The project is a residential environment improvement initiative that Gwangyang Steelworks has been operating since 2005 under the name "Fixing Houses with Love." Since 2018, it has been renamed "Hope House" and expanded its scope to include not only neighbors in need but also social welfare facilities.
To deliver warmth to as many neighbors as possible, Gwangyang Steelworks selects beneficiaries through Gwangyang City, local community offices, and the Gwangyang City Sarang Nanum Welfare Foundation.
Selected households first undergo a residential environment inspection through a prior visit, and customized services such as wallpapering, flooring, wall insulation, lighting replacement, window replacement, and sink installation are provided. To date, a total of 257 households have benefited from the program.
In particular, the warmth is further enhanced as not only professional companies but also talent volunteer groups formed by Gwangyang Steelworks employees who wish to contribute to the local community by utilizing their specialties are scheduled to participate in the volunteer work.
Starting this year, the project is planned to be conducted in conjunction with joint volunteer activities targeting sister villages, which is expected to provide more tangible assistance to neighbors in need.
Lee Cheol-ho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, "Through this project, we hope that the residential environment of local neighbors will be improved even a little, alleviating inconveniences in their daily lives," and added, "Going forward, Gwangyang Steelworks will systematically carry out social contribution activities that provide practical help to local residents and actively lead the realization of a community where we live together."
Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks continues its warm-hearted companionship with local neighbors by not only improving residential environments but also delivering carnations and woodworking crafts to local seniors in celebration of Family Month, and by taking longevity photos of the oldest senior in Hapomaru Village and presenting them framed as gifts.
