‘Golf Emperor’ Tiger Woods (USA) will not participate in the second major tournament of the PGA Tour season, the PGA Championship.
On the 10th (local time), the PGA of America, which organizes the tournament, announced the list of participating players, and Woods' name was missing. This was already expected. Woods underwent ankle surgery on the 20th of last month and is focusing on treatment. It is unlikely that he will appear in the June US Open and the July Open as well. This year's PGA Championship will be held from the 19th at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, USA.
Tiger Woods, who recently underwent ankle surgery, will not participate in the major PGA Championship.
Amid Woods' absence, it is notable that 18 LIV Golf players are included. Following last month's Masters, another showdown of pride between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf is anticipated. Among the LIV members, this year's Masters runner-up Brooks Koepka and the oldest major champion Phil Mickelson (both USA) lead the charge. Cameron Smith (Australia), Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed (all USA), Sergio Garcia (Spain), and Korean-American Kim Si-hwan also participate.
All PGA members will also compete. The ‘Big 3’?Jon Rahm (Spain), Scottie Scheffler (USA), and Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland)?will participate. Defending champion Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa (both USA), and Jason Day (Australia) will also appear. Korea is represented by the four active PGA Tour players Im Sung-jae, Kim Joo-hyung, Kim Si-woo, Lee Kyoung-hoon, along with 2009 PGA Championship winner Yang Yong-eun.
