Apple's Wozniak: "AI Will Open an Era of Scammers"

"Strong Regulation Needed for Big Tech Companies"
"Education on Combating AI-Based Fraud Is Necessary"

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak pointed out that artificial intelligence (AI), which learns on its own without human assistance, will "help computers to scam more convincingly."

On the 9th (local time), Wozniak argued in an interview with the British BBC that "stronger regulations on AI are necessary."

Wozniak explained, "AI is so intelligent that it is exposed to bad players who want to deceive someone," and tools like generative AI ChatGPT "generate very intelligent text, making scammers much more persuasive."

He added, "While it is impossible to stop the development of AI technology, more information should be provided so that users can better recognize malicious scams."

Although he did not mention any specific companies, he criticized big tech companies developing AI technology, saying, "They seem to think they can do anything."

He continued, "Greater responsibility should be imposed on these companies," but expressed skepticism about whether regulators can properly enforce this.

Additionally, Wozniak emphasized responsibility for individual users of AI.

He stated, "I believe the responsibility for everything generated by AI and made public lies with the person who posts it," emphasizing that "individuals must be held accountable."

He also pointed out that people need to be educated to cope with AI-based scams and personal information theft.

Earlier, in March, Wozniak joined over 1,000 global AI experts and IT industry executives, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, in signing a petition calling for a six-month pause on developing AI systems that surpass OpenAI's latest large language model (LLM), GPT-4.

Meanwhile, Wozniak is an American computer scientist who co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs in 1976. About ten years later, in 1985, he left Apple, and in 2021, he founded the private space company 'Privateer Space.'
