Determination of Patent Infringement on Ice Water Dispenser '4-way Valve' Technology
SK Magic (CEO Yoon Yo-seop) announced on the 11th that it filed a patent infringement injunction and damages claim lawsuit against Cuckoo Homesys at the 63rd Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court, which handles intellectual property, on the 1st of this month.
SK Magic believes that Cuckoo Homesys infringed on its patented technology that applies a '4-way valve' to ice water purifiers, maximizing the miniaturization and energy efficiency of the purifier. It stated that two models of Cuckoo Homesys water purifiers were found to infringe the patent, and various measures such as sending sales prohibition warning letters and filing lawsuits are being taken to enforce the patent rights.
SK Magic's ice water purifier was recognized for the excellence of this patented technology and received the '2019 Energy Winner of the Year Award.' A representative from SK Magic said, "To resolve the patent-related issues with Cuckoo Homesys smoothly, we sent warning letters before the lawsuit and waited for a response, but since there was little willingness to resolve the matter, we proceeded with the lawsuit. We plan to demand the immediate cessation of sales of the relevant Cuckoo Homesys models and claim damages estimated from the sales of those models to protect SK Magic's patents, which were developed with significant investment of time, cost, and manpower over a long period."
