Jungnang-gu Conducts Comprehensive Inspection and Maintenance of 124 Flood Control Facilities and Flood-Prone Areas
‘Companion Partners’ Program Operated for Semi-basement Households and ‘Care Officials’ Assigned to Households with Flooding History
Proactive Measures to Prevent Flood Damage Including Dredging and Cleaning of Rivers, Sewers, and Storm Drains
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) is implementing a ‘Comprehensive Summer Flood Disaster Countermeasure’ to minimize damage caused by wind and flood disasters during the upcoming summer season and is taking proactive measures.
The comprehensive flood disaster countermeasure will continue for five months, from the 15th of this month to October 15th.
First, a Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters has been established and is being operated, led by Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi as the head, consisting of 13 task forces and 8 field response teams.
Previously, the district completed two rounds of inspections and maintenance on flood control facilities and flood-prone areas. The inspected sites include 3 river locations totaling 9.99 km, 33 private and public construction sites, and a total of 124 locations such as retaining walls, steep slopes, and areas at risk of falling rocks.
This year, to prevent flooding accidents in semi-basement houses, a ‘Companion Partners’ program to support evacuation of disaster-vulnerable residents in semi-basement homes has been organized and is being operated. Companion partners, consisting of over 50 officials and residents, have been assigned to 16 households to assist with rapid response during disasters.
Additionally, more than 70 households with a history of flooding are matched one-on-one with dedicated ‘Care Officials’ who manage the households, disseminate information, and support swift evacuation.
To prevent safety accidents in rivers and urban areas, dredging and cleaning of rivers, sewers, and storm drains have also been completed.
Furthermore, a river patrol team is being operated. The river patrol team is responsible for quickly patrolling areas where citizens are at risk of accidents in rivers during heavy summer rains and preventing damage caused by isolation accidents.
Along with this, the district has expanded disaster early warning facilities, CCTV, and safety location signs in blind spots of safety facilities to protect the safety of residents using Jungnangcheon Stream.
Also, 116 locations with heavy foot traffic were selected for installation of manhole fall prevention facilities, and road water level gauges were installed mainly in flood-prone areas. This is to ensure rapid response in case of road flooding caused by heavy rain, minimizing flood damage and perfectly securing residents’ safety.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “Above all, we prioritize the safety of our residents and will establish thorough preparedness to ensure that not a single life is lost due to heavy rains this summer, maintaining perfect readiness.”
