To this end, last month, a general advisory group was formed, and Professor Kim Hyun-soo of Dankook University's Department of Urban Planning and Real Estate, who planned major new towns in the Seoul metropolitan area such as Paju Unjeong and Goyang Changneung in Gyeonggi Province, was appointed as the chief planner.

The general advisory group proposed a broad development direction to establish the smart waterfront city as ▲a support city within Saemangeum ▲a future-type stay city ▲a metropolitan hub city in the West Coast area, and is preparing detailed specialization plans. On this day, they visited the Saemangeum site to discuss new business strategies and supplement development plans.

First, considering the increasing demand from resident companies, it was emphasized that the waterfront city must serve new roles as a residential space for workers and as a support city. It is reported that they are preparing specialization plans to become a business-friendly city, including establishing residential plans that consider the characteristics and lifestyles of industry workers.

There are plans to enhance amenity (convenience facilities: urban attractiveness) by utilizing waterfront spaces and to explore transformation into a future-type stay city such as digital nomads (nomads: working without spatial constraints) and workations (remote work from vacation spots: working while enjoying vacation) where people can stay without residing permanently.

They also suggested that differentiated urban development plans should be reviewed, including introducing the concept of a robot-friendly city from the urban construction process for the first time in Korea. Early establishment of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line between the waterfront city and Iksan Station to improve metropolitan accessibility and ways to leap forward as a metropolitan hub city in the West Coast area were also mentioned.

Kim Gyu-hyun, head of the Saemangeum Development Agency, said, "We plan to develop the Saemangeum Smart Waterfront City into a new future city that provides advanced services to residents and company workers," adding, "We will work with the general advisory group to supplement the plan in the direction of creating a vibrant Work·Live·Play city full of charm and vitality by utilizing waterfront spaces."
