Found mobile phone functioning normally, but abnormal body reactions observed
Suspected tetanus symptoms after emerging from the drain
Initially offered 500,000 won collection fee, but no applicants
A man in Brazil received tetanus treatment after entering a sewer to retrieve his dropped cellphone. The man reportedly offered to pay anyone who could retrieve the phone, but when no one volunteered, he threw himself into the sewer.
On the 8th (local time), the US New York Post reported that last week at a music festival held in Bahada Tijuca, Brazil, a 30-year-old man jumped into a sewer. It was reported that he entered the sewer to pick up his cellphone, which he had dropped while urinating.
He offered $400 (approximately 520,000 KRW) to anyone who could retrieve the phone, but when no one accepted, he eventually went into the sewer himself.

The man said, "I just wanted to get my phone back," and added, "I offered it to others, but I had no choice but to jump in myself." After finding the phone, the man immediately got out of the sewer. Fortunately, the phone was still working normally, but his body showed signs of injury.
Bleeding was confirmed on his foot, and symptoms suspected to be tetanus were observed. Eventually, the man was transported to a hospital, where the wound was sutured and he received injection treatment to alleviate the tetanus symptoms.
After resting for about four hours, he was discharged and is currently reported to be in good condition. He said, "After entering the sewer, I started to think about the danger belatedly," and added, "If I hadn't found the phone, it wouldn't have been worth it, but fortunately, I did."

Meanwhile, tetanus is a disease caused by the invasion and proliferation of tetanus bacteria in a wound. Initially, muscles around the wound contract, and over time, abnormalities can occur in the neck and jaw muscles.
In severe cases, it can lead to an inability to properly move the mouth. The incubation period ranges from as short as one day to over 20 days, but most cases develop within 14 days.
Symptoms spread throughout the body and may be accompanied by headache, mild fever, chills, and general body pain. Tetanus bacteria are found in soil, sand, wood, and excrement, so if a wound directly contacts contaminated water such as in a sewer, there is a risk of developing tetanus.
