The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (Hugo) is conducting its third prosecutor recruitment for the first half of 2023.


On the 10th, Hugo announced that it will hold an additional recruitment for three prosecutors, including one chief prosecutor and two prosecutors.


According to the Hugo Act, the total number of prosecutors, including the chief and deputy chief, is limited to 25. Under Hugo's organizational structure, prosecutors consist of the chief, deputy chief, seven chief prosecutors, and sixteen prosecutors. Currently, there are 22 prosecutors, and the hiring process for two prosecutors is already underway.


However, Kim Seong-mun, Human Rights Investigation Policy Officer (chief prosecutor), and Prosecutor Park Si-young are in the process of resignation procedures. If their resignations are confirmed, the number of prosecutors will decrease to 20.


Accordingly, Hugo has decided to conduct an additional recruitment for three prosecutors, including chief prosecutors and prosecutors.


Applications will be accepted online through a specialized application website from the 15th to the 24th, for a period of 10 days. After the application period ends, document screening and interviews will be conducted sequentially from June, followed by a recommendation process by the personnel committee, and the president will make the final appointment.


According to the Hugo Act, the term of office for Hugo prosecutors is three years, with the possibility of three renewals, allowing a maximum of 12 years of service. The mandatory retirement age is 63.


As of the public recruitment announcement date, chief prosecutors must have at least 12 years, and prosecutors at least 7 years of lawyer qualifications to be eligible to apply. Prosecutors who passed the 5th Bar Examination or later are eligible to apply. Applicants with more than three years of investigative experience in investigative agencies, including military prosecution, will be given preference in the document screening.
