"Walking to work after a long time allowed me to take a closer look at our neighbors and surroundings, and it also gave me a renewed opportunity to reflect on the importance of environmental protection."
Park Woo-hyuk, President of Jeju Bank, recently shared a certification photo of himself walking to work on the company bulletin board along with this message. Jeju Bank is conducting a ‘Walk to Work’ campaign involving all employees to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. The ‘Walk to Work’ campaign is part of Jeju Bank’s monthly ‘Save Day’ campaign held on the 21st of each month. It is an energy-saving campaign where all employees voluntarily commute once a month by walking, using public transportation, or carpooling instead of driving their own cars. Following President Park Woo-hyuk’s certification photo, employees working not only in the Jeju area but also in Seoul and Busan participated, showing their support for the campaign’s purpose. Jeju Bank designates the 21st of every month as ‘Save Day’ and plans to lead ESG management and greenhouse gas reduction efforts through campaigns such as ▲turning off all lights in the Jeju Bank headquarters building at 8 p.m. ▲all employees using public transportation (or walking to work) ▲using mugs (tumblers) to reduce paper cup usage ▲promoting the use of tablet PCs to save paper in daily life.

In March, President Park led about 170 employees in an environmental cleanup activity while walking the Jeju Olle Trail. The activity was conducted simultaneously on parts of Jeju Olle Trail courses 7, 17, and 18. With the arrival of spring and an increase in tourists, the focus was on maintaining cleanliness around coastal areas, oreums (volcanic cones), and alleys so that visitors could enjoy the Jeju Olle Trail in a pleasant environment. President Park said, "Jeju Bank continuously carries out various environmental protection activities for a beautiful and clean ‘Eco Jeju.’ We will continue to do our best to establish Jeju Bank’s status as a ‘Community Bank’ that resonates with Jeju residents and the local community."
Earlier, in August last year, Jeju Bank and Shinhan Financial Hope Foundation signed a business agreement with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, the Jeju Olle Foundation, and the Community Chest of Korea for the ‘Resource Circulation Campaign Toward Carbon Neutral Jeju.’ Starting with the ‘Moajwobse’ campaign to collect PET bottle caps, they have been implementing resource circulation projects such as ‘Bakkweobse,’ which upcycles collected PET bottle caps to replace old and corroded wooden benches, and the ‘Baewobse’ program, which educates participants about types of plastics and upcycling processes and allows them to experience it firsthand.
On the 3rd of this month, Jeju Bank donated 10 million KRW to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province branch of the Korean Red Cross (Chairman Jeong Tae-geun) to support students with intractable diseases and to create study rooms for youth. The donation was delivered to support the ‘2023 Jeju Love Charity Walk’ hosted by the Jeju Red Cross at Donam Citizen Welfare Town Square on May 13. Jeju Bank has been donating annually for 10 years since the event began in 2014.
