"Neighbor Killed" 40s Man Commits Murder and Surrenders Over Wall Noise Dispute

The Suwon Southern Police Station in Gyeonggi Province has arrested and is investigating a man in his 40s who killed a neighbor over wall noise issues, Yonhap News reported on the 9th.

According to the police, around 7:30 PM on the previous day (the 8th), Mr. A (in his 40s), residing on the 5th floor of a villa located in Seryu-dong, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon City, allegedly killed his neighbor Mr. B (in his 30s) with a weapon over wall noise problems.

Meanwhile, recently, not only noise between floors but also noise between walls has emerged as a social issue.

It is understood that after the crime, Mr. A injured himself and voluntarily reported to the police, stating that he had killed the person next door. The police who responded to the report arrested Mr. A at the scene as a suspect caught in the act. He is reported to be in stable condition without life-threatening injuries. According to the police investigation, there are six one-room units on the 5th floor of the villa where the incident occurred, and Mr. A and Mr. B were neighbors living next to each other.

There have been no previous noise-related complaints filed with the police from either of them. To determine the exact cause of death, the police have requested an autopsy of Mr. B’s body at the National Forensic Service. They also plan to investigate the precise circumstances of the incident once Mr. A recovers.

Meanwhile, recently, not only floor noise but also wall noise has emerged as a social issue. As in the previous case, wall noise problems have sometimes escalated to weapon threats and murder between neighbors. In March, an incident occurred in a multi-family house in Yangpyeong-eup, Yangpyeong-gun, where a neighbor came wielding a weapon, complaining that the sound of a refrigerator running was too loud.

In February, a man in his 20s living in a one-room motel in Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province, was brought to trial on charges of strangling and killing his neighbor following a dispute over wall noise issues.
