Dobong-gu Implements Comprehensive Summer Measures for Heatwaves, Flood Prevention, and Safety

Comprehensive Summer Measures in Four Areas Including Heatwave and Flood Control from May 15 to October 15 for 5 Months

Establishment of 18 Detailed Measures Including Heatwave Situation Management and Flood Disaster Response to Prevent Various Disasters and Accidents in Advance

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) will implement the '2023 Comprehensive Summer Measures' for five months starting from May 15 to prevent various disasters and safety accidents that are likely to occur during the summer and to minimize inconvenience to residents.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration's climate forecast, this summer is expected to have higher temperatures than average and heavy rainfall due to low pressure and atmospheric instability, necessitating proactive responses to heatwaves and heavy rain.

Accordingly, the district has established a total of 18 detailed measures in four areas: ▲heatwave ▲flood control ▲safety ▲health, aiming to prevent summer accidents and enable rapid recovery in case of emergencies.

First, during the implementation period of the comprehensive measures, a heatwave situation management T/F will be formed and operated. When a heatwave warning is issued, a comprehensive heatwave support situation team will operate 24/7. To protect vulnerable groups from extreme heat, 151 cooling shelters will be operated at senior centers and other locations, and cooling fog systems will be installed to alleviate heat for pedestrians in urban areas. Dedicated personnel for visiting health management will also conduct home visits for elderly living alone and chronic patients.

In addition, to protect residents from natural disasters such as typhoons and floods, the Flood Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters will be organized into 13 teams and operated in stages. A total of 75 care officials and 54 private sector accompanying partners will be designated and managed for flood-vulnerable households. The district will actively encourage flood insurance enrollment and intensively install flood prevention facilities before the rainy season to prevent damage.

Furthermore, 96 remote access control facilities for river entry and exit will be expanded to ensure the safety of residents using rivers, and inspections will be conducted on rivers such as Jungnangcheon.

To prepare for unexpected flood damage, emergency relief and cooking relief sets will be stocked, and 30 temporary housing facilities capable of accommodating about 34,000 people will be operated.

Pre-inspections of disaster-vulnerable facilities such as apartment complexes, construction sites, and road facilities will be conducted to prepare for summer safety accidents, and inspections of outdoor advertising will be carried out to minimize damage caused by strong winds. Safety inspections will also be conducted on welfare and childcare facilities, as well as on multi-use facilities expected to have many visitors, such as performance halls, cultural assets, and parks.

Additionally, to respond quickly to food poisoning during the summer, a system for constant reception and dissemination will be established, and joint inspections of school food suppliers will be conducted to prevent food poisoning. The COVID-19 daily recovery system will also be activated to ease the public burden and gradually adjust to ensure that the COVID response system is settled within the general medical system.

To respond to air pollution, the district will operate an ozone alert system to minimize the impact on residents' living environment and human health, maintaining a rapid dissemination and inspection system when ozone advisories and warnings are issued.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, "We will do our best to prevent all disasters such as floods and infectious diseases that may occur during the summer, and we will carefully consider and support vulnerable groups so that they do not suffer due to heatwaves."
