Yoon Invites 320 Children and Guardians to the Blue House
Experience Activities Including Robot Control Competition and Wreath Making
President Yoon Suk-yeol stated on the 5th, "We will create a nurturing environment where each and every one of our children can receive world-class education, health, and care services."
On the same day, President Yoon held a Children's Day invitation event at the Blue House's Yeongbingwan and Yeonmugwan halls to celebrate the 101st Children's Day and made these remarks.
About 320 children and their guardians from across the country were invited to this Children's Day event. In particular, children living in remote island and mountainous areas, children in care facilities and foster care, children from single-parent and multicultural families, visually impaired children attending the National Seoul School for the Blind, and children of fallen or deceased military and police personnel were invited.
The children experienced various educational programs such as watching performances including "Kind Pig," as well as play-based activities like fan making and face painting, and educational programs on fire safety, robotics and coding experiences, environmental safety, career experiences, traffic safety, and proper eating habits.
Notably, this event included many barrier-free programs that allowed children with disabilities to enjoy and participate together.
President Yoon and First Lady Kim Keon-hee personally observed the children’s experiential activities during the event and participated in activities such as cookie making with the children. Gifts were given to the attending children, including 36-color colored pencils, notebooks, and a casual watch from the Presidential Office, while visually impaired children received braille calendars as gifts.
According to Lee Do-woon, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, in a written briefing, President Yoon and the First Lady asked each child’s name and took selfies with them. They also signed and wrote messages for children who wanted, saying, "Grow up healthy and strong, from Grandpa President on May 5th, Children's Day."
When a guardian next to a child who was holding President Yoon’s hand tightly said, "Our child’s dream is to become the president," President Yoon laughed heartily and gently patted the child’s head.
The President and First Lady made cookies with the children and participated together in various activities such as sharing popcorn, controlling robots, and making flower crowns. When a child who won the robot control competition raised both hands in joy, President Yoon praised the child with a big smile, saying well done.
In his greeting, President Yoon said, "If it hadn’t rained, Grandpa President would have played and run around with you all on the Yongsan lawn where I work, but it’s a bit unfortunate because of the rain," adding, "Grandpa will work hard so you can grow up happily and joyfully." He also expressed gratitude, saying, "Our parents and guardians have really worked hard."
First Lady Kim shouted "I love you" together with the children and promised to meet again next time.
