GS Energy Reviews Feasibility of Introducing US 'NuScale SMR' in Nuclear Hydrogen National Complex
Uljin County, Gyeongbuk Province (County Governor Son Byung-bok) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GS Energy (President Heo Yong-soo) at the GS Energy headquarters on the 4th for the development of the Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex.
On the 4th, Uljin County signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GS Energy at the GS Energy headquarters to foster the Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex.
This MOU was conducted to foster the ‘Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex’ promoted by Uljin County to lead carbon neutrality in the era of global climate crisis and to strengthen sustainable economic development and energy security. It is expected to provide momentum for building the infrastructure of the Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex.
The main contents of the MOU between Uljin County and GS Energy include ▲feasibility study for the introduction of NuScale SMR within the Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex ▲supply of electricity and heat to the Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex ▲participation of partner companies in the Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex. The plan is to construct the SMR of the American company NuScale within the Uljin National Industrial Complex to produce and supply power and heat within the complex.
GS Energy, the leading private power producer in Korea, is promoting the introduction of the American NuScale Power SMR into the Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex. Through this SMR project, GS Energy aims to establish a foothold to advance as a carbon-free eco-friendly company by not only producing electricity but also producing hydrogen using high-temperature steam.
Governor Son Byung-bok stated, “This MOU is expected to accelerate the ‘Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex Development Project’ promoted by Uljin County. Uljin County will actively cooperate to ensure the smooth progress of this project through close collaboration with central government ministries such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.”
