Kim Dong-yeon: "We will stop the Fukushima contaminated water discharge together with 14 million residents" A post Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, uploaded on his SNS on the night of the 4th

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon emphasized on the 7th, during the Korea-Japan summit, that "the suspension of the Fukushima contaminated water discharge plan must be the red line." In particular, he argued that President Yoon Suk-yeol should not concede Korea's 'past' at the previous summit and then give up the 'present' and 'future' at this summit.

On the night of the 4th, Governor Kim posted on his social media service (SNS) an article titled "Suspension of the contaminated water discharge plan must be the red line of the Korea-Japan summit," expressing "serious concerns about the Fukushima nuclear power plant contaminated water issue being on the agenda at this Korea-Japan summit," and stated, "I strongly oppose the ocean discharge of Fukushima nuclear power plant contaminated water, which threatens the safety of the people's food and the livelihoods of fishermen, small business owners, and related industry workers."

He continued, "The Japanese government must withdraw the contaminated water discharge plan, which is being carried out without transparent information disclosure, complete safety verification, and the consent of neighboring countries and the international community," warning, "Japan must not become a 'nuisance country' to its close neighboring countries and the international community."

He also said, "I hope President Yoon Suk-yeol fulfills his duty and responsibility to protect the lives and safety of our people," and firmly stated, "The discharge of contaminated water is absolutely not a matter that can be compromised under the pretext of promoting friendly relations between Korea and Japan."

In particular, he emphasized, "The red line of this Korea-Japan summit is to enforce the suspension of the contaminated water discharge plan without scientific joint investigation and safety verification by both Korea and Japan," and added, "Following the concession of Korea's 'past' at the previous summit, we cannot give up the 'present' and 'future' at this summit."

Furthermore, he promised, "As the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, I will explore all possible measures to protect the safety of 14 million residents."
