Asan City and Taean County in Chungnam Province are promoting the creation of smart cities with national government funding.
Chungnam Province recently announced on the 4th that Asan and Taean were selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s “Small and Medium-sized Smart City Development National Contest,” securing 24 billion KRW in national funds.
According to the selection results, Asan will promote the development of a small and medium-sized comprehensive smart city in the southwestern area, while Taean will do the same in the old downtown and enterprise city areas.
Based on this, Asan plans to pursue balanced development between the east and west, and Taean aims to demonstrate specialized services linking the old downtown and enterprise city.
The province plans to promptly allocate the national funds received from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to Asan and Taean to expedite the project.
The province expects that the contest selection will help solve urban problems in the Asan and Taean areas, such as building innovation centers, fostering various smart advanced industrial technologies, supporting related companies, creating jobs, responding to regional extinction and climate crises, and introducing citizen-experienced solutions.
Meanwhile, the province will closely cooperate to ensure that the applicant institutions, Chungnam Development Corporation and Korea Rural Community Corporation, can achieve results in the upcoming “Smart Safety Equipment Support Contest” scheduled for selection this month.
If selected, the province anticipates that smart safety equipment such as intelligent closed-circuit television (CCTV) and collapse/displacement risk warning devices will help prevent accidents at small and medium-sized construction sites where safety management is weak and accident rates are high.
