Choi Sang-dae, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, stated on the 3rd, "We will collect opinions from the 2030 generation regarding low birth rates and reflect them in next year's budget and the 'Fiscal Vision 2050'."
On the same day, Vice Minister Choi made this remark during a meeting held at a book cafe in Mapo-gu, Seoul, with about ten members of the 2030 generation, including young adults of marriageable age, parents of infants and young children, and young aides from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, focusing on the topic of 'low birth rates.'
Choi Sang-dae, Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance, is having a conversation with the younger generation at the 'Fiscal Rules, Dialogue with Future Generations on Low Birthrate' event held on the 3rd in Chaeguro, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Vice Minister Choi explained that since January of this year, in the process of establishing the 'Fiscal Vision 2050,' they have been holding meetings on topics of high interest to the 2030 generation to identify their difficulties and discover fiscal reform tasks, and this was the fourth such meeting.
The participants of the meeting suggested, "Although the government is providing substantial financial support for low birth rates, there are not many policies that are tangibly felt," and added, "It is necessary to expand support focusing on policies that directly help with childbirth and childcare."
They also mentioned, "Besides the financial burden, intangible and tangible disadvantages in the workplace due to parental leave are also factors that discourage childbirth," and added, "It is important to create a corporate culture and social atmosphere that are friendly to childbirth and childcare."
Vice Minister Choi stated, "We will seek ways to comprehensively manage key fiscal projects related to low birth rates scattered across various ministries and agencies," and added, "We will closely cooperate with related ministries to expand support centered on fiscal projects that the younger generation can feel, such as easing the burdens of childbirth, childcare, and housing costs."
Furthermore, the discussed contents will be reflected as much as possible in the formulation of the 2024 budget and the process of establishing the 'Fiscal Vision 2050.'
