[Special Stock] MICO Accelerates Development of Next-Generation All-Solid-State Battery Electrolytes... Corporate Value Rises

MICO's stock price is rising. News that the company is actively fostering new businesses to expand corporate value appears to be influencing the stock price.

As of 11:04 AM on the 3rd, MICO is trading at 8,920 KRW, up 4.94% from the previous day.

MICO is independently researching and developing oxide-based electrolytes for next-generation all-solid-state batteries. Depending on ionic conductivity, all-solid-state electrolytes are classified into sulfide-based, oxide-based, and polymer types. Due to the risk of hydrogen sulfide toxic gas generation from sulfide-based electrolytes, oxide-based electrolytes are considered the final stage. However, due to technical challenges, most domestic batteries currently use sulfide-based electrolytes.

Globally, battery manufacturing is a critical focus, and Korea announced at the ‘Secondary Battery National Strategy Meeting’ that it will invest 20 trillion KRW from both public and private sectors by 2030. MICO is developing oxide-based electrolytes, which are more stable and reliable than sulfide-based ones, by applying accumulated know-how in oxide-based ceramic manufacturing. The company has already completed patent applications domestically and in three overseas countries. MICO states that it is continuing research to develop affordable, high ionic conductivity solid electrolytes by adding new materials to secure strong price competitiveness.

MICO is also developing ceramic heat dissipation substrates. The heat dissipation substrate market is expected to steadily grow due to demand for eco-friendly vehicles and automotive electronics. Power semiconductor heat dissipation substrates used in high-output fields such as electric vehicles (EVs) consist of ceramic (alumina, silicon nitride, aluminum nitride) substrates bonded with copper.

MICO is jointly developing silicon nitride substrates with improved thermal conductivity compared to existing substrates in collaboration with domestic research institutes. The company is also undertaking a national project to develop silicon nitride powder for electric vehicles to localize core materials for heat dissipation substrates. Based on accumulated technological capabilities, MICO plans to provide customized heat dissipation substrates tailored to customer needs through development aligned with market demands.

At this year’s shareholders’ meeting, MICO demonstrated strong commitment to new businesses by amending its articles of incorporation to add business objectives including ceramic product manufacturing and sales, solar power, all-solid-state electrolytes, and heat dissipation substrates.
