- Davio Takes a Step into Crop Analysis Market through Diverse Uses of Satellite Imagery
- Plans to Collaborate with Malaysian Farms for Farm Tree and Forest Management
Spatial information AI technology company Davio plans to fully utilize AI analysis technology using ultra-high-resolution (30cm-class) satellite imagery for monitoring palm tree plantations in the Malaysia region.
Davio signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 28th with a Malaysian GIS company, Saba Legend, to periodically monitor the condition of trees and to collaborate technologically to instantly identify palm trees with poor nutritional status.
The palm oil plantation operated by Saba Legend covers an area of approximately 300㎢, which is about 103 times the size of Yeouido. They plan to explore opportunities to reduce the time and cost required for managing such a large-scale plantation through Davio’s AI technology.
Davio has previously conducted analysis on certain plantation areas by deriving the NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) value, a representative indicator for assessing vegetation status, using specific bands (Red-NIR) of satellite imagery.
Based on this, future collaboration will involve using Davio’s AI analysis technology to analyze palm tree vegetation indices periodically with 30cm-class ultra-high-resolution satellite imagery, visualizing the data, and delivering it to the plantation side to assist in palm oil plantation management.
Mohamed Ishaber Hassan, CEO of Malaysia’s Saba Legend, stated, “Managing and monitoring vast palm oil plantations requires a lot of manpower and time.” He added, “If management can be made more efficient by utilizing Davio’s technology and satellite imagery, it will not only help in managing palm oil productivity but also hopefully lead to discussions on forest management and carbon markets in the Sabah region in the future.”
Choi Kyuseong, Vice President of Davio who participated in this MOU, said, “Davio’s AI technology shines by utilizing satellite imagery in various ways,” and added, “We hope this agreement will serve as a good example showing that Davio’s technology can be well applied in the field of vegetation environment.”
Davio’s mission is to apply artificial intelligence (AI) technology to reduce repetitive and fatigue-inducing tasks previously performed by humans, enabling efficient work processes and faster decision-making. The company is also exploring various business opportunities through cooperation with global satellite companies, and is expanding its global business in Malaysia, Indonesia, and China, especially through a partnership with Airbus DS.
