Immersive Exhibition Hall Attracting 4.5 Million Visitors Domestically
First Permanent Exhibition Hall Opening Overseas
Sequential Openings Planned in the US and UAE Within the Year
The immersive media art exhibition hall ‘Arte Museum’ is opening a permanent exhibition space in Chengdu, China. District, the design company operating Arte Museum, announced on the 27th, “It will open on the 28th in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, marking its full-scale entry into the overseas market.”
In Chengdu, the permanent exhibition hall will be established within Dongjiao Memory, a cultural and artistic landmark revived from an old factory site, covering approximately 1,500 pyeong (about 4,958 square meters). Chengdu is a hub of economy and culture in western China and was the capital of the Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period. District will showcase popular works from the existing Arte Museum, such as FLOWER and BEACH.
At the same time, content capturing the natural landscapes of Sichuan and Chengdu has been prepared. Especially in the LIVE SKETCHBOOK space, where visitors can see their drawings come to life on a wide screen, they can directly color animals like pandas wandering through misty bamboo forests. Additionally, in the GARDEN, the work ‘Colors of China,’ depicting China’s history, characters, and culture in the colors red, blue, black, white, and yellow, will be exhibited.
Arte Museum has welcomed over 4.5 million visitors domestically. It started in Jeju in September 2020, followed by openings in Yeosu and Gangneung in 2021. Last October, it made its overseas debut with the non-permanent exhibition ‘Arte M’ in Hong Kong. District, having begun full-scale overseas expansion, plans to open Arte Museum in Las Vegas, USA, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates, within this year. The goal is to expand to 20 major cities worldwide by 2026.
Lee Seong-ho, CEO of District, said, “It is an honor to open the first overseas Arte Museum in Chengdu, a city of economy, culture, and abundant natural resources,” adding, “I hope Arte Museum, a space where the beautiful natural scenery of Sichuan and Chengdu can be experienced through media art, becomes a place of joy and comfort for visitors in Chengdu.”
