French President Emmanuel Macron acknowledged shortcomings in the pension reform process.
On the 24th (local time), according to EuroNews, President Macron made these remarks during an interview with the French daily 'Le Parisien' held at the ?lys?e Palace on the 21st of this month, marking his first year in office.
Pension reform is a campaign promise of President Macron. It centers on extending the retirement age from the current 62 to 64 years, and the related law was promulgated on the 15th. Since then, efforts have been made to appease public opinion, but protests continue across France.
Regarding this, President Macron said, "I should have been more deeply involved to persuade the people," adding, "It seems to have been a mistake not to show myself enough and not to take direct responsibility for this reform."
He also added, "There are still unclear points regarding the pension reform, and I intend to actively engage in public discussions." About Prime Minister ?lisabeth Borne, he expressed trust, saying, "She has faithfully fulfilled her role despite difficult circumstances."
On economic issues, President Macron predicted, "The difficulties caused by rising prices will continue for the time being." EuroNews reported that he was unable to present additional measures to address this. In fact, food prices in France are known to have risen by 15.9% year-on-year as of March this year.
President Macron said, "Food prices will continue to rise until this summer," adding, "The key is to earn better according to the amount of work done, and this depends on employers and social dialogue."
