[Click eStock] "KPS, Korea's First LFP Battery Recycling Business in Full Swing"

Hana Securities analyzed on the 25th that KPS will officially launch the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery recycling business, the first of its kind in Korea.

Kim Doohyun, a researcher at Hana Securities, stated in a report on the same day, “Segiritec, which KPS fully acquired as a 100% subsidiary in March, is understood to have already secured patents for technology that can effectively recover materials constituting lithium batteries since 2018,” adding, “Through this technology, Segiritec has taken a step closer to LFP battery recycling, a field that global electric vehicle and cell companies are paying attention to but where no effective recycling technology currently exists.”

He analyzed, “There are two major significances of Segiritec’s recent patented technology: the possibility of entering the LFP recycling market, which was difficult to commercialize due to low recovery rates, and the entry into the lithium battery recycling business that will be fully launched based on this technology.”

He further explained, “Segiritec’s technology is capable of recovering high-purity materials through chemical reactions at the cell stage of LFP batteries, solving existing problems,” and added, “Joint research for the commercialization of LFP battery recycling is planned in collaboration with government-funded institutions using this technology.”

Additionally, he noted, “There is approximately 5,000 pyeong of idle land within Segiritec’s licensed site, making it possible to operate a pilot plant within this year,” and predicted, “Through this technological research, Segiritec’s lithium battery recycling business could be commercialized as early as next year.”
