Seven Locations Providing Filial Piety Meals Begin Pilot Operation from the 24th for Elderly Living Alone Aged 75 and Over
Park Gang-su, District Mayor, “Not Just a Simple Meal, but the First Step Toward One-Stop Elderly Welfare Administrative Services”
Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su) announced that starting on the 24th, it opened a total of seven resident-participation filial piety meal operation centers, from Seogang-dong No. 1 to Gongdeok-dong No. 1, and provided filial piety meals.
The resident-participation filial piety meal program is a flagship project of the 8th local government administration that provides a nutritious lunch free of charge to any resident aged 75 or older to prevent elderly malnutrition and loneliness. On the 24th, the warm first meal was finally served.
The seven pilot meal service institutions are ▲ Gongdeok-dong No. 1 and No. 2 at Ahyeon Senior Welfare Center and Ahyeon Silver Welfare Center ▲ Yonggang-dong No. 1 at Yonggang Senior Welfare Center ▲ Yeomni-dong No. 1 at Mapo Art Center (Suni Food) ▲ Daehyeong-dong No. 1 at Woori Mapo Welfare Center ▲ Sinsu-dong No. 1 at Bamseom Korean Buffet ▲ Seogang-dong No. 1 at the Mapo Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center.
At the entrance of these seven institutions, a signboard reading “Filial Piety Meals Prepared by Mapo Residents for the Elderly” is displayed, warmly welcoming the local elderly who will receive the meals in the future.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, is having a conversation with the elderly at the opening ceremony of the first branch of Hyo-do Bapsang in Seogang-dong on the 24th.
On that day, at Seogang-dong No. 1 located in the Mapo Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center, about 30 elderly living alone received their first filial piety meal.
One elderly person who finished the meal said, “Cooking and eating alone was very cumbersome, so I often skipped meals, but today, eating together with others made the food taste better and the mealtime enjoyable. I am very grateful and happy that the community is doing something even my children find difficult.”
Going forward, elderly living alone in the pilot program will receive meals using various ingredients six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, at designated meal service institutions.
So far, Mapo-gu has made thorough preparations for the smooth promotion of the filial piety meal project, the first of its kind in a local district, by widely promoting the project through Chief Chef Lee Jae-yong as an ambassador and over 300 promotional team members, and appointing and training over 300 volunteers responsible for meal distribution and companionship for the elderly.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “The resident-participation filial piety meal program goes beyond simply providing a free meal to the elderly. It will advance from preventing malnutrition and loneliness to a one-stop elderly welfare administrative service that can manage daily needs such as health and psychological counseling.”
