The police have launched an investigation after allegations arose that a YouTuber, who became famous for producing videos documenting the reporting and arrest of suspected drug offenders, demanded money from drug offenders on the condition that he would not post the videos.

On the 24th, the Drug Crime Investigation Division of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency announced that they have booked and are investigating a man in his 20s, identified as YouTuber A, without detention on charges of extortion and violation of the Narcotics Control Act.

A is suspected of threatening three drug offenders by saying, "If you do not pay money, I will post the video of the arrest process," and extorted about 2 million won from one of them.

A, along with accomplices, found suspected drug offenders through social media and other means, invited them to use drugs, arranged meetings, and then raided the scenes to hand them over to the police.

The police recently received intelligence stating, "Before A posted the arrest videos, he demanded money from the drug offenders," and began an investigation. On the 23rd, they executed a search warrant and secured related electronic records from A, who was on the street.

A police official said, "We plan to verify the exact facts through analysis of the seized items."
