DA Technology announced on the 24th that it has signed a supply contract worth 9.8 billion KRW with LG Energy Solution for manufacturing equipment for secondary battery assembly processes. The equipment supplied to LG Energy Solution this time is expected to be applied to the cylindrical battery post-process assembly line.
DA Technology is expecting additional orders this year due to the expansion of new production lines by major global battery companies. This is because aggressive investments are continuing not only in Korea but also among global battery manufacturers.
According to the industry, LG Energy Solution plans to invest 7.2 trillion KRW to establish production lines for cylindrical batteries for electric vehicles and LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries for energy storage systems (ESS) at its factory in Arizona, USA. In addition, Hyundai Motor Group is reportedly pushing to establish joint ventures (JVs) with SK On and LG Energy Solution in the US for electric vehicle battery production.
DA Technology possesses specialized technology across the entire battery post-process line, including Notching equipment, Stacking equipment, cylindrical CSW assembly equipment, and cleaning equipment. In particular, it has secured outstanding technology in ultra-precision laser notching that overcomes the limitations of conventional press punching, and in the Z-stacking field, which stacks secondary battery materials such as cathodes and anodes in a zigzag manner.
Recently, the company has been diversifying its business areas to include ultra-small secondary batteries applied not only to electric vehicle batteries but also to drones and robots.
A company representative explained, “We have established a post-process equipment value chain applicable to all form factors including cylindrical, pouch, and prismatic types, enabling stable collaboration with global battery manufacturers. We are expanding our production capacity (CAPA) to proactively respond to the increasing equipment demand due to new line expansions domestically and overseas.”
He added, “We also plan to accelerate research and development of manufacturing equipment tailored to the new form factor changes of our major clients. We expect to smoothly achieve the order target of 150 billion KRW set for this year.”
