At around 10:30 PM on the 22nd, a fire broke out at a Gutdang in Gusan-myeon, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam, spreading to a nearby mountain.
According to the Changwon Fire Headquarters, a passing resident discovered the fire and reported it, and the Gutdang residents evacuated, resulting in no casualties.
At the scene, 140 personnel including firefighters, volunteer firefighters, and wildfire suppression teams, along with 18 pieces of equipment such as pump trucks and water tanks, were deployed.
The Gutdang fire was fully extinguished by the dispatched teams at around 11:28 PM.
The fire that spread to the nearby Wolgansan was brought under control at around 12:40 AM on the 23rd, with ongoing efforts to extinguish remaining flames and check for hotspots.
The fire damaged approximately 100㎡ of the Gutdang and 4,500㎡ of forest land, destroying pine trees and broadleaf shrubs, causing an estimated property damage of about 30 million KRW according to the fire station.
Firefighters, police, and forestry authorities believe the fire was caused by a candle left burning in the Gutdang that tipped over, and are investigating the exact cause and extent of the damage.
