Former TV Chosun CEO Bang Jeong-o wins partial appeal against MBC in 2nd trial... "30 million won compensation"

Former TV Chosun CEO Bang Jeong-oh also won partial victory in the second trial of the lawsuit he filed against MBC regarding the late Jang Ja-yeon coverage.

The Civil Division 13 of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judges Moon Gwang-seop, Jung Moon-gyeong, Lee Jun-hyun) on the 21st ruled in the appeal trial of the correction report and damages claim lawsuit filed by former CEO Bang against MBC and the PD Notebook production team, ordering "the defendants to jointly pay former CEO Bang 30 million won in consolation damages," just as in the first trial.

Additionally, the court ordered, "In the first PD Notebook program broadcast after the judgment is finalized, the host must read the correction statement once and display its title as subtitles," and "If this is not complied with, MBC must pay former Chairman Bang 500,000 won per day."

PD Notebook reported in July 2018 that former CEO Bang was related to the case of Ms. Jang, who left a post claiming she was entertained by influential figures and then took her own life.

In particular, it raised suspicions of police negligence in the investigation, reporting that former CEO Bang and his family did not receive a proper police investigation at the time of Ms. Jang's suicide in 2009.

In response, former CEO Bang filed a lawsuit in October 2018 against the PD Notebook production team and MBC, claiming 300 million won in damages and requesting a correction report, arguing that his reputation was damaged.

Earlier, the first trial court partially accepted former CEO Bang’s claims in August last year, ordering MBC to pay 30 million won in damages and issue a correction report.
