Received Combat Situation Report from National Security Office... Directed Related Ministries to Take Measures
President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 21st instructed the prompt establishment of measures to protect overseas nationals, including the dispatch of military transport aircraft, in relation to the armed conflict situation in Sudan.
Presidential spokesperson Lee Do-woon stated in a written briefing that President Yoon was informed by the National Security Office about the possibility of the worsening clash between government forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) currently ongoing in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.
In response, President Yoon said, "Do your best to ensure the safety of overseas nationals under any circumstances," and instructed, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of National Defense, and other relevant departments should promptly implement measures including the dispatch of military transport aircraft." The National Security Office also held an emergency meeting with related departments and decided to operate a 24-hour whole-of-government response system while closely monitoring the local situation and advancing countermeasures.
Meanwhile, the two sides, which had been in conflict over the RSF's integration schedule with the government forces and command authority after integration, began intense fighting in Khartoum and the satellite city of Omdurman from the 15th. Their armed clashes have spread throughout Sudan, reportedly resulting in 320 deaths and over 3,200 injuries so far.
