More than 60 men who were caught holding a group hallucination party at a hotel in Yongsan-gu were all reportedly infected with AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) at the time of their arrest by the police.

According to KNN and the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency's Narcotics Investigation Unit on the 21st, 61 drug offenders (2 manufacturers, 25 dealers, and 34 users) arrested by the police on the 20th had collectively used methamphetamine at a hotel or club. The police arrested and sent 17 people, including a man in his 30s identified as A, who was involved in methamphetamine manufacturing and use, to prosecution, while the remaining 44 were sent without detention.

According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of manufacturing about 150g of methamphetamine at a commercial building in Boeun-gun, Chungbuk, together with Mr. B, a man in his 40s who served time with him in prison in February 2021.

In the past, both Mr. A and Mr. B were imprisoned in the same prison for methamphetamine manufacturing and smuggling charges, respectively. In April of the same year, the police discovered evidence that Mr. B had manufactured about 1kg of methamphetamine at two one-room apartments in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, and sent him to prosecution under detention.

At that time, Mr. B testified about the crimes of his accomplice Mr. A, and the police investigated Mr. A’s associates through closed-circuit television (CCTV) and other means before arresting Mr. A.

Mr. A reportedly translated English materials online and learned methamphetamine manufacturing techniques using cold medicine ingredients, then manufactured methamphetamine in an underground production room equipped with ventilation facilities located in Yongsan, Seoul.

They used a so-called "throw-and-go" method, where methamphetamine was left at a specific location to avoid police crackdowns, and users would later pick it up. The ages of the users ranged from their 20s to their 50s.

Drug buyers gathered in groups of about 4 to 5 people at hotels, clubs, or sleeping rooms to collectively use methamphetamine.

A representative from the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency said, "All of them were men," and added, "They met through foreign-exclusive apps not used domestically, which made it difficult to apprehend them."

Meanwhile, it was revealed that among those involved in this case were employees of Korail and social service agents, causing a significant stir.

However, Korail explained, "The employee in question was dismissed as of March 29, and through a lawyer, it was confirmed that there is no connection with AIDS infection."
