Significantly Reducing Cloud Operation Costs... SKT Launches 6 New Services

SK Telecom announced on the 21st that it will launch six new consulting services and solutions that can drastically reduce cloud operation costs.

As cloud, a digital infrastructure-based technology, spreads across various industries, companies are focusing on cost efficiency to prepare for the economic downturn, drawing attention to technologies that can reduce costs of already established cloud systems. SKT expects that the launch of these cloud cost reduction solutions and services will significantly cut cloud expenses across industries and accelerate customers' cloud transitions.

Payback Service Available if Cost Reduction Targets Are Not Met

The three newly launched cloud consulting services include ‘Cost Diagnosis Consulting,’ which diagnoses customers' cloud costs; ‘Cloud Transition Consulting,’ which supports migration to the cloud; and ‘Hybrid Consulting,’ which assists in operating both public clouds such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft (MS) Azure, and private clouds, covering all aspects of cloud support. In addition to cloud cost experts, engineers specialized in various technical fields participate directly in the diagnosis process to propose optimal cost reduction strategies.

The ‘Cost Diagnosis Consulting’ service, applied in advance to seven clients including game companies and startups before its official launch, confirmed the identification of cost-saving factors ranging from 10% to 50% in operational expenses. A major domestic game company, Company A, had its biggest challenge in securing detailed data on overall cloud usage fees. SKT analyzed cloud usage patterns and reviewed whether there were any unusual cost items for individual resources or on a daily basis, providing the findings in report form. Based on this cost data, Company A was able to reduce overall costs by nearly 30% through a combination of commitment programs and cloud resource optimization.

Additionally, SKT offers an AI-based cost diagnosis service through its self-developed cloud management platform, providing anomaly cost detection, billing cost forecasting, and cost pattern analysis. Using detailed cost analysis and cost reduction recommendations, various saving options are suggested to customers.

The ‘Cloud Transition Consulting’ service supports customers in migrating to the cloud without interrupting existing services, which is expected to greatly improve the convenience of cloud adoption for enterprises. The ‘Hybrid Consulting’ service leverages SKT’s accumulated know-how in operating private and public clouds through mobile infrastructure management to provide customers with safe and efficient solutions. SKT also launched a ‘Cost Management Agency Service,’ which pre-agrees on cost reduction rates with customers and refunds operational expenses if the agreed reduction targets are not met.

Solutions to Reduce Cloud Operation Costs by 30-40% Unveiled

On the same day, SKT unveiled two solutions that can reduce cloud server operation costs by up to 40% and cut cloud usage by up to 30% through app performance optimization, with plans to launch them within the second quarter.

The ‘Cloud Server Operation Cost Reduction Solution’ supports migrating customers’ cloud systems to Amazon cloud servers (Graviton) that offer approximately 40% improved performance compared to equivalent servers. Notably, it automatically diagnoses the apps targeted for migration and enables functional and performance testing after migration, allowing customers to easily switch to Amazon servers and immediately enjoy up to 40% cost savings. Additionally, SKT announced a solution that reduces cloud costs by up to 30% by optimizing app performance to lower server CPU usage without modifying the customer’s apps.

To commemorate the service launch, SKT plans to offer partial free consulting for new customers throughout May. Detailed service information and consulting inquiries are available on SKT’s enterprise business dedicated website.

Lee Dong-gi, head of SKT Cloud MEC Tech, stated, “We expect this cost reduction service to provide great benefits to customers planning cloud transitions or concerned about cloud costs,” adding, “We will continue to ensure that SKT’s digital infrastructure services contribute to innovation across various industries.”
