[Editor's Note] The course introduction of Harumanbo is evolving. Walking several thousand steps within about an hour during your commute or lunch break can boost both your body and mind. The subway is not only an easily accessible and safe means of transportation for everyone but also an important point in Harumanbo. We introduce pleasant walking spots around subway stations.
Today's course is Sinjeong Station on Line 5. Sinjeong-dong is named by taking one character each from the area's old villages, Sintri Village and Eunhaengjeong Village. Sintri is a pure Korean word meaning 'a village formed on a new site.' Eunhaengjeong originated from the fact that there used to be a ginkgo tree pavilion at the entrance of the old village. When you exit Sinjeong Station, you will find Sinjeong Jeil Market, the oldest traditional market in Yangcheon-gu. The market naturally formed when Eunhaengjeong and Sintri villages in Yangcheon-gu were developed into residential complexes. As the Sinjeong-dong area was designated as a New Town, the market's size has been reduced, and now only small-scale lifestyle-oriented shops remain.
Leaving Sinjeong Jeil Market and proceeding toward Mokdong Samgeori via Jungang-ro, you will find the large-scale apartment complex Mokdong New Town Apartments. Next to Complex 10 is Sintri Park, a neighborhood park. The walking trails and jogging courses are well maintained and loved by residents. Inside the park, there is a nature learning center where you can enjoy an aquatic plant garden and a flower garden, and there is a rice paddy where residents can have hands-on experiences. Located along the central axis of Mokdong, the 3.62 km-long Mokdong Walking Street is a pedestrian-only road. It is designed with distinctive themed paths at certain sections, providing beautiful and pleasant walking spaces for local residents. The themed paths include Love Street, Youth Street, Sun and Star Street, Poetry and Ink Fragrance Street, Youth Culture Street, Harmony Street, and Hometown Street.
Yangcheon Park is also called Yangcheon Neighborhood Park. It is a neighborhood park included in the Mokdong New Town plan. Nearby are public offices and office buildings such as Yangcheon District Office, Yangcheon Police Station, and Yangcheon District Council. To the north are Mokdong Complexes 6 and 9, and to the south are Complexes 14 and 13. Facilities include basketball courts, badminton courts, and a children's playground, as well as an outdoor stage and a multipurpose plaza. Yangcheon Park is an excellent park for walking, with a well-maintained 740 m jogging track around the perimeter and a 650 m walking path inside the park. The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office and Court, established in 1971, have jurisdiction over five southwestern districts of Seoul. The southwestern area includes Yeongdeungpo-gu, Guro-gu, Geumcheon-gu, Yangcheon-gu, and Gangseo-gu. Since it includes Yeouido in Yeongdeungpo-gu, it can be considered the core area of politics, media, and finance in South Korea. The total distance is about 3.4 km, which takes less than an hour to walk around. If you look closely at various spots, it takes 2 to 3 hours.
