On the 20th, Park Byung-gyu, Mayor of Gwangsan District Office in Gwangju Metropolitan City, volunteered as an honorary manager at the ‘Cafe Holder’ on the first floor of the Gwangsan District Office in celebration of Disability Day.
Cafe Holder is a workplace that supports the independence of the hearing impaired, creating jobs for victims of sexual violence at Gwangju Inhwa School and supporting independent living. ‘Holder’ is an abbreviation for people who build their lives alone and live together.
Since establishing the space on the first floor of the Gwangsan District Office in 2013, now marking its 10th anniversary this year, three disabled workers are currently employed there.
Mayor Park of Gwangsan District personally took orders and served customers, urging continuous interest and affection for Cafe Holder.
He also communicated with disabled workers who are nurturing their dreams as baristas and exchanged opinions on ways to support social and economic independence.
The exhibition of works by artists belonging to ‘Palette,’ an art self-help group of the Gwangju Nanum Disabled Independent Living Support Center, also attracted attention.
Park Byung-gyu, Mayor of Gwangsan District, said, “Cafe Holder, which has taken deep roots in Gwangsan, will continue to be a stable workplace for disabled people dreaming of independence and a hub promoting coexistence between disabled and non-disabled people. Gwangsan District will accompany and support this journey.”
