Recruiting Participants for the First Urban Agriculture Programs: ‘Field Farmer School’ and ‘Healing Horticulture Class’

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) announced that the Jungnang Happiness Urban Agriculture Center will open on May 4th.

As residents' interest in urban agriculture grows, the Jungnang Happiness Urban Agriculture Center is expected to serve as a hub for urban agriculture in Jungnang-gu by offering various educational, experiential, and cultural events for all generations.

Located within Cheongnam Park in Sinnae-dong, the center is a two-story facility equipped with diverse education and experience spaces.

The first floor consists of the Green Kitchen, where urban agriculture education and cooking practice take place, and a smart farm that uses artificial intelligence to cultivate vegetables. The second floor houses the Urban Farmer Education Hall for urban agriculture-related events and education, a Park Leisure Program Room for children's forest experiences, a Seed Library, and a caf?.

The Jungnang Happiness Urban Agriculture Center will hold an opening ceremony at 3 p.m. on May 4th and then begin full operation. The center will be open from Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., offering a variety of educational and event programs related to urban agriculture.

In May, programs such as the ‘Field Farmer School (Introductory Course to Urban Agriculture)’ held every Friday for adults and the ‘Healing Horticulture Class’ held every Wednesday are prepared. The ‘Field Farmer School’ allows participants to experience basic theoretical education on urban agriculture as well as practical training on cultivating garden crops. The ‘Healing Horticulture Class’ is a course where participants create planter interior art by growing their own companion plants.

Residents who wish to participate can apply online through the Seoul Public Service Reservation System and the Jungnang-gu Office website by April 30th. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, “The Jungnang Happiness Urban Agriculture Center is not just a place to cultivate gardens but a space for rest, experience, and communication. I hope residents can enjoy happy rest and daily life here.” He added, “We will continue to support the establishment of urban agriculture in residents’ daily lives.”

Since 2019, Jungnang-gu has developed Jungnang Happiness Farms 1, 2, 3, and 4. In 2021, the Urban Agriculture Division was established, leading efforts to revitalize urban agriculture in Jungnang-gu.

Additionally, in May, alongside the opening of the Jungnang Happiness Urban Agriculture Center, the inauguration of Jungnang Happiness Farm 5 is planned.
