Predict Menstrual Cycle by Skin Temperature... 'Galaxy Watch5' Update

Samsung Electronics announced on the 20th that the 'Galaxy Watch5' and 'Galaxy Watch5 Pro' will support a skin temperature-based menstrual cycle prediction feature.

To this end, the 'Samsung Health app' update will begin today. It will be applied starting with the 'Bluetooth' models of the Galaxy Watch5 series.

This feature is implemented by combining Samsung Electronics' sophisticated sensor technology with the algorithm of 'Natural Cycles,' a leading company in women's health technology. It enhances the existing calendar-based menstrual cycle prediction method by adding skin temperature information for more convenient predictions.

Generally, skin temperature varies according to the menstrual cycle phase. The temperature sensor embedded in the Galaxy Watch5 series measures the user's skin temperature during sleep and then predicts which phase of the menstrual cycle the user is in. The Samsung Health app intuitively provides information on the menstrual cycle along with the expected ovulation date and fertile period, and displays the measured skin temperature in a graph. Through the daily record feature, when users input their symptoms and moods, useful tips corresponding to the menstrual cycle phase are also provided. Content that helps alleviate symptoms, such as meditation and stretching, is also supported.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch5 series automatically and comfortably measures skin temperature during sleep through a non-contact infrared temperature sensor. The measured data and information are encrypted and securely stored on the user's device.

Hon Pak, Executive Vice President and Head of the Digital Health Team at Samsung Electronics' MX Business Division, said, "Samsung Electronics is striving to provide users with comprehensive and in-depth health information through innovative sensor technology," adding, "Through the temperature sensor of the Galaxy Watch5 series, users will be able to better understand their personal health and conveniently manage their menstrual cycles."
