'Red Tie Challenge' Across Nationwide Workplaces
SK Discovery recently announced on the 17th that it held a blood donation event together with five affiliates in celebration of World Hemophilia Day.
Hemophilia is a congenital bleeding disorder caused by the absence or deficiency of clotting factors in the blood. The World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) established April 17th as "World Hemophilia Day" in 1989 to raise awareness about hemophilia and bleeding disorders.
In the SK Discovery blood donation campaign, 235 members from its affiliates located in Pangyo, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do?including SK Chemicals, SK Gas, SK Bioscience, SK Plasma, and SK D&D?as well as employees at affiliate factories in Ulsan, Andong, Cheongju, and Pyeongtaek participated. SK Discovery plans to hold more than three blood donation events this year with its affiliates to contribute to stabilizing the blood supply.

Centered around SK Plasma, which supports hemophilia patients, the "Red Tie Challenge" was also held. The Red Tie Challenge was started by the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) in the United States in 2016. It symbolizes raising awareness of the disease through the 'red' color representing blood and the 'tie' symbolizing connection.
Not only the members at SK Plasma headquarters in Pangyo but also employees at SK Plasma and SK Bioscience’s Andong plants, SK Chemicals’ Ulsan and Cheongju plants, and SK Gas Ulsan base held red tie-shaped signs to send support to hemophilia patients.
Lee Yong-seok, Head of ESG at SK Discovery, said, “We will continue to actively practice ESG management to address social issues such as supporting hemophilia patients by conducting regular blood donation campaigns.”
