Confirmed Secret Messenger Access During Absence
When Reported to the Audit Office, They Said "Request Police Investigation"
An employee at Paju City Hall in Gyeonggi Province filed a complaint against a colleague who secretly checked their messenger, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
The Paju Police Station announced on the 16th, "On the 7th, Team Leader A, a grade 6 employee working at Paju City Hall, filed a complaint against Team Leader B, a colleague, for violating the Information and Communications Network Act, and an investigation is underway."
Team Leader A discovered on the afternoon of the 6th, after returning from an external business trip, that a message saying "Logged in with the same ID from another location" was displayed on their computer desktop, and reported it to the City Hall's Information and Communications Department.
Team Leader A later testified to the police that the next day, they were informed by the Information and Communications Department that Team Leader B had accessed the messenger.
After reporting the incident to the Audit Office, Team Leader A requested a check for any additional access records by Team Leader B. However, the Audit Office responded, "We cannot disclose that information; please request an investigation from the police."
Team Leader A said, "I am very scared and anxious about why a colleague working with me at the city would snoop through my personal messenger," adding, "I know hacking is a criminal act, and I am deeply disappointed with the city Audit Office for not protecting me, the victim."
The Paju Police Station summoned Team Leader A on the 13th for a complainant investigation and plans to summon Team Leader B soon to investigate the exact circumstances.
