Gwangju District Court Imposes 3 Million Won Fine
A pharmacist who, at the request of his doctor father, dispensed medication without prescriptions and sold drugs outside of a pharmacy for two years was sentenced to a fine.
According to Yonhap News on the 16th, the Gwangju District Court Criminal Division 9 (Presiding Judge Im Young-sil) announced that it sentenced pharmacist A (42) to a fine of 3 million won for violating the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act.
From September 2017 to August 2019, A dispensed medication without a doctor's prescription 95 times for 21 patients, and sold prescription drugs without a doctor's prescription 13 times to 6 patients. A is known to have committed these offenses targeting patients, their families, and acquaintances at the hospital operated by his doctor father.
The court pointed out, "Considering the purpose of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, which restricts the place of drug sales to pharmacies so that general and prescription drugs can be dispensed according to a doctor's prescription and safely administered under the pharmacist's supervision and guidance, as well as the period and frequency of the offenses, the nature of the crime is serious." Regarding the sentencing reasons, the court explained, "We took into account that A admitted to the crimes and showed remorse, has no prior criminal record, and considered the circumstances in light of the patients' places of residence and ages."
