Declaration of Solidarity with Korea and Japan
The European Union (EU) strongly condemned North Korea's test launch of a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
On the 15th (local time), the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy stated in a press release, "We strongly condemn North Korea's launch of a new long-range ballistic missile on April 13."
The EU said, "North Korea has once again demonstrated its intention to continue advancing its methods of launching weapons of mass destruction," adding, "This threatens international peace and security." It further stated, "All illegal and dangerous acts that violate United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and recklessly escalate military tensions in the region must be stopped."
The EU called on North Korea to completely, verifiably, and irreversibly dismantle its nuclear weapons, weapons of mass destruction, ballistic missile programs, and nuclear programs.
The EU expressed solidarity with South Korea and Japan, stating, "We are ready to cooperate with relevant allies in pursuing meaningful diplomatic efforts focused on sustainable peace and security." It also said, "We urge a unified and resolute response to maintain the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and to prevent North Korea from escalating military tensions."
