Gyeonggi Province will launch the 'Senior Safety Housing Project' this year for the first time, aimed at improving the living environment by installing anti-slip pads and ramps for basic pension recipients aged 65 and older.
On the 16th, Gyeonggi Province announced that following the completion of consultations with the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the establishment of social security systems on the 10th, it will begin recruiting project participants from the 17th at the administrative welfare centers located in towns, townships, and neighborhoods across each city and county.
This project is a pledge by Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province to support elderly-friendly home renovations so that basic pension recipients aged 65 and older can live safely by preventing accidents such as falls within their homes.
The project supports the installation and reinforcement of safety facilities inside homes, such as anti-slip pads and ramps, brightening indoor lighting, and removing door thresholds to improve the living environment.
Support of up to 5 million KRW per household will be provided for a total of 200 households.
Applicants must be basic pension recipients aged 65 or older, with income conditions of 2.02 million KRW or less for single-person households and 3.23 million KRW or less for couples.
Since more than 60% of the elderly population in the province receive the basic pension, it is expected that many elderly people will be eligible to apply.
Applications can be submitted in person by the applicant or a family member living together by visiting the administrative welfare centers in towns, townships, and neighborhoods of each city and county from the 17th of this month until the 26th of next month.
The province will select the final recipients in early June. From July, construction companies will visit homes to select necessary construction items and then begin the actual work. After all construction is completed, satisfaction surveys will be conducted, and based on the survey results and the volume of support and applications throughout the year, the scale of support will be gradually expanded.
Kim Tae-cheol, head of the Residential Welfare Team of the province, stated, "The speed at which Gyeonggi Province is entering an aging society is faster than expected. We believe this project will enable customized residential welfare support suitable for Gyeonggi Province as it enters an aged society."
