Yoo Seung-min on Yoon's 27% Approval Rating: "Next Year's General Election Is a Foregone Conclusion"

Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min directly criticized President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating, which has fallen below 30%, saying, "Next year's general election is a foregone conclusion."

Yoo made this comment regarding the results of a Gallup Korea public opinion poll released that day, stating, "Negative evaluations are higher across all regions and age groups except those aged 70 and above."

According to the Gallup Korea survey conducted from the 11th to the 13th of this month targeting 1,002 adults nationwide aged 18 and older, President Yoon's positive evaluation of his state affairs management stood at 27%, while negative evaluation was 65%. This marks the first time in about five months since the third week of November (29%) that the president's approval rating has fallen into the 20% range.

Yoo emphasized, "What the president and the ruling party must pay attention to is the fact that negative evaluations are overwhelmingly high as the centrist and non-affiliated groups, excluding supporters of both camps, continue to increase." He added, "Among the 35.6% centrist group, positive evaluations are 15% and negative 73%. Among the 29.3% non-affiliated group, positive evaluations are 15% and negative 66%."

He then urged the president and the party to awaken. Yoo wrote, "The president says, 'Players do not look at the scoreboard.' What is there to be proud of in not looking at the scoreboard? That is nothing but arrogance, dogmatism, and closed-mindedness."

He continued, "If the centrist and non-affiliated groups do not reflect on why they are turning their backs on this administration and fundamentally change, the Yoon government will become a powerless administration that cannot accomplish anything. I urge the president to awaken and for a reform of state affairs."

Regarding the ruling party, Yoo said, "The People Power Party also needs to come to its senses," and criticized, "How can a pathetic party that cannot say a word due to fear of nomination, even though the president and government are making mistakes, win the hearts of the people and succeed in the general election?"
