Matches to be held for two days from the 25th of next month at Haesin Football Stadium
The ‘31st Jeollanam-do Disabled Sports Competition’ will be held for three days from the 24th to the 26th of next month in Wando-gun, the ‘Island of Health.’
The organizing committee of the competition has been introducing the rules and viewing points of each sport every week, and this time, the sport being introduced is ‘Lawn Bowling.’
The name Lawn Bowling means rolling a ball on the grass, and the Lawn Bowling event of the 31st Jeonnam Disabled Sports Competition will be held for two days from the 25th to the 26th of next month at Haesin Soccer Stadium, featuring singles (individual) and doubles (pairs) matches.

The Lawn Bowling playing field is called the green and is a square measuring 40 meters in width and length, which is further divided into 6 to 8 rinks, each 5 meters wide.
The game method is as follows: the player rolling the ball first places a ‘mat’ and rolls the ‘jack (target ball)’ from the mat to the opposite side of the rink. After the jack stops, it is moved parallel to the center line of the rink, and then the two players take turns rolling their balls from the mat toward the jack.
Points are scored based on the number of balls closer to the jack than the opponent’s balls. After the prescribed 6 ends (30 minutes) are completed, the player with the higher score or the first to reach the predetermined score wins.
The matches are conducted in a tournament format, with one overtime round in case of a tie, and all games are played according to the operating regulations of the Jeonnam Disabled Lawn Bowling Federation.
Each city and county can enter up to 14 players in total, and players participating in singles cannot participate in doubles. Up to 12 players can register for singles, and doubles teams can have up to 2 players per team.
In last year’s 30th competition, the individual standing division (men’s singles) saw Naju take 1st place, Mokpo 2nd and 3rd; the individual wheelchair division (men’s singles) had Naju in 1st, Yeongam 2nd, and Yeosu 3rd; the individual wheelchair division (women’s singles) had Naju 1st, Damyang 2nd, and Naju 3rd; the individual standing division (women’s singles) had Yeosu 1st, Naju 2nd, and Suncheon 3rd; and the combined team event (mixed doubles) had Suncheon 1st, Naju 2nd, and Yeosu 3rd.
In the 31st competition, it will be worth watching whether Naju and Yeosu, who dominated the top ranks in all three categories in the previous competition, will continue their strong performance.
Wando-gun ranked 5th alongside Yeongam, Damyang, and Gangjin-gun in the individual standing division (men’s singles), and 4th in the individual wheelchair division (men’s singles).
If Wando-gun demonstrates the skills it has built up so far in this competition, entering the ranking positions does not seem to be a distant goal.
As the saying goes, ‘You see as much as you know,’ referring to the weekly introductions of the rules and information of each sport can add more enjoyment to watching the games.
