Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education recently conducted the ‘2023 Elementary School Curriculum-Based Student Assessment’ training at Jiphyeon Room and Dasan Hall to enhance elementary school teachers' capabilities in customized teaching and student assessment.
Strengthening teachers' capabilities in student assessment linked to customized teaching aligns with Superintendent Cheon Chang-su's top pledge to ensure all students have solid basic academic skills.
Following the ‘Understanding Student Assessment’ training held in February for all elementary school student assessment officers, Ulsan Office of Education organized this advanced course.
The 30-hour training, conducted over four days, featured Professor Kim Seon from Chungnam National University as the instructor, who lectured on the concepts and functions of student assessment in the classroom, as well as types of educational assessment.
Participants developed performance assessment questions and scoring rubrics for 6th-grade Korean, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science subjects through group practice.
Ulsan Office of Education plans to distribute the performance assessment questions and scoring rubrics developed by teachers to all elementary schools around July after expert review.
Additionally, in March, the Office distributed four types of assessment-related materials, including the ‘2023 Curriculum-Based Assessment Operation Guide,’ to all elementary schools to ensure thorough operation of student assessments. They also plan to provide consulting and training so that teachers can utilize these materials to conduct fair and reliable student assessments.
