Seamechanics is showing strength following news that Tesla will change the voltage of its electronic devices from the current 12V (volts) to 48V. Seamechanics supplies battery components for electric vehicles to LG Energy Solution, a supplier for Tesla.
As of 10:41 AM on the 11th, Seamechanics is trading at 6,770 KRW, up 3.2% from the previous trading day.
According to the Korea Automotive Technology Institute the previous day, Tesla's switch from '12V to 48V' is analyzed to potentially bring new changes to the electric vehicle market.
Earlier, on the 1st of last month during Investor Day, Tesla announced plans to switch the voltage of electronic components to 48V. Tesla plans to apply 48V to the Cybertruck, targeted for mass production in the second half of this year, and to models released thereafter.
Industry sources interpret this as a strategy to reduce power loss in electric vehicles and decrease vehicle weight, as well as to create a 'Tesla ecosystem' similar to Apple. There is analysis that if the 48V market becomes the standard, it could pose risks to competitors and existing component suppliers.
Meanwhile, according to Seamechanics' business report, they produce ESS (Energy Storage System)-related 48V parts such as RESU10 48V BOTTOM COVER, RESU10 48V INNER CASE, and RESU10 48V TOP COVER.
In May of last year, Seamechanics signed two supply contracts for electric vehicle battery components with LG Energy Solution and its subsidiaries. The total contract amount is approximately 198.89627 billion KRW.
