Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) held the ‘Spring Outing Festival’ from the 7th to the 9th to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the opening of ‘Jungnang Mangwoo Space,’ a hub within Mangwoo History and Culture Park.


The special lecture by Professor Yoo Hong-jun on the 7th, themed around Mangwoo History and Culture Park?a treasure trove of modern and contemporary Korean history?was well received, as were the various experiential programs held over the following two days.

In particular, the stamp tour, where visitors explored the graves of famous figures and received souvenirs upon collecting stamps, was very popular.


Additionally, a four-cut photo booth and hanbok rental booth set against the backdrop of Mangwoo History and Culture Park and Jungnang Mangwoo Space offered visitors unique memories.


Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, “Since its opening last year, Jungnang Mangwoo Space has proudly promoted Jungnang-gu and Mangwoo History and Culture Park, providing rest, education, and experiential programs to park visitors, fulfilling its role well. Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced the successful conclusion of the Bulgwangcheon Spring Festival ‘Spring of Eunpyeong’ amid enthusiastic resident participation.


‘Spring of Eunpyeong,’ a representative spring festival of Eunpyeong, was held for seven days from the 2nd to the 8th along Bulgwangcheon. After four years of COVID-19 restrictions, the festival was held without masks, attracting about 30,000 local residents and families, bringing vitality back to the area.


On the first day, the 2nd, the ‘Eunpyeong Cherry Blossom Marathon’ took place. This was the first marathon held at Bulgwangcheon, with a total of 600 citizens participating, creating great excitement.

Event booths set up along the Bulgwangcheon walking trail offered a variety of exhibitions, promotions, and hands-on activities. Visitors enjoyed the district government information booth, free bicycle maintenance busking, customized experience booths featuring Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, and workshops for making plaster air fresheners and woodworking.


The festival’s performances kicked off on the 7th with local art groups such as the Gratia Orchestra and Eunpyeong Boys and Girls Choir. Evening performances included a VR drawing show, acapella group Exit, and Korea’s representative rock band ‘Yoon Do-hyun Band,’ drawing enthusiastic responses from the audience.


The closing performance on the 8th featured a classical concert conducted by world-renowned musician Geum Nan-sae, performed by the New World Philharmonic Orchestra, resonating under the Bulgwangcheon sky. The evening show finale was graced by stars including rock and ballad singer Park Sang-min, trot singers Yang Ji-eun and Shin Yu, ballad and dance female duo Davichi, and R&B and indie singer 10cm.


Mayor Kim Mi-kyung of Eunpyeong-gu said, “We created a festival space where everyone could gather and enjoy together without masks at Bulgwangcheon, the cherry blossom sanctuary. I hope it was a happy time to fully enjoy the scent of spring at Bulgwangcheon.”

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-soo) implemented special safety management measures around Seoul World Cup Stadium on the 8th in cooperation with Mapo Police Station (Chief Im Sung-soon). This was an emergency response anticipating large crowds for the 2023 Hana One Q K League.


A district official explained, “Upon hearing that singer Lim Young-woong would perform the ceremonial kick-off at the FC Seoul vs. Daegu FC professional soccer match, we immediately decided to implement special safety management in preparation for the expected large crowd.”


The match was scheduled from 4:30 PM for about two hours on the 8th, and the district deployed about 60 safety personnel from 3 PM to 7 PM ahead of and during the event.

In particular, based on the ‘Safe Mapo Hotline Establishment Agreement’ signed on the 23rd of last month, joint inspections were conducted with Mapo Police Station, and safety accident prevention activities were carried out in cooperation with other related agencies.


Mapo-gu focused safety personnel deployment on potentially hazardous areas such as steep slopes, stairways, and narrow alleys along the route from the two nearby subway stations (World Cup Stadium Station and Mapo-gu Office Station) to the stadium, managing safety around subway stations. They also conducted crackdowns on illegal parking and street vendors in the area.


About 40 district office staff led by Mayor Park Kang-soo and around 20 residents including members of the Mapo-gu Sports Council served as safety personnel.


Mapo Police Station managed traffic control, crowd order maintenance, and situation monitoring via CCTV. Additionally, Seoul Metro maintained order inside World Cup Stadium Station, and Seoul Facilities Corporation conducted announcements and order maintenance inside the stadium.


Mayor Park Kang-soo of Mapo-gu said, “Upon learning that an event expected to attract a large crowd would be held in our district, we urgently implemented special safety management measures including deploying safety personnel. We will continue to do our best to protect the lives and property of Mapo residents and ensure their safety.”

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) invited Director Lee Byung-hoon of the Education Research Institute on the 8th to deliver a special lecture titled ‘One-Point Learning Lesson: The Power to Make Yourself Study.’


In his lecture, Director Lee shared methods for parents and students who need self-directed learning, including ▲learning methods suited to their child, ▲motivating learning, and ▲strategies for career and academic advancement, guiding parents on how to create a supportive learning environment.


About 300 students and parents participated in the lecture.

Director Lee Byung-hoon is a self-directed learning expert who has shared learning secrets through various programs such as MBC’s ‘Study Is Money’ and SBS Special ‘Change.’ Through this career and academic advancement lecture, he delivered practical information not seen in existing media, receiving positive feedback. The session included a Q&A segment to address participants’ questions.


A participating parent said, “With my child approaching high school entrance, I had many concerns about career planning, but learning about study and career guidance methods tailored to my child’s personality type was very helpful.”


Geumcheon-gu is preparing another special lecture inviting a renowned expert in April. On April 21, Seoul National University Professor Yoo Sung-ho will deliver a career lecture titled ‘The Path of a Forensic Scientist: Never Regretted Once.’


Yoo Sung-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I hope all students can develop the power to study independently through this lecture. Geumcheon-gu will continue to provide diverse career and academic information to help ease educational concerns.”





‘10th National Student Drawing and Writing Contest’ Conveys the Spirit of April 19

Seoul Gangbuk-gu’s representative festival, the ‘April 19 Revolution National Cultural Festival 2023,’ began on the 8th. On the 9th, Mayor Lee Soon-hee delivered a greeting and explained the spirit of April 19 at the ‘10th National Student Drawing and Writing Contest’ held at the National April 19 Democratic Cemetery.


The ‘National Student Drawing and Writing Contest’ was organized to encourage students’ interest in democracy and to inherit the spirit and significance of the April 19 Revolution. Marking its 10th anniversary this year, it has established its status as a national competition.

The contest saw participation from 419 elementary and middle school students nationwide. Elementary students in grades 1 to 3 drew pictures on the themes ‘Our Proud Country, Korea’ and ‘The April 19 Revolution I Imagine.’ Elementary students in grades 4 to 6 and middle school students wrote essays on the themes ‘What We Must Do for Our Country’s Development’ and ‘Letters to Students Who Participated in the April 19 Revolution.’


The 23 winners will be announced on the district office website on the 17th, and the winning works will be displayed from 1 PM on the 18th at the festival’s eve event, the ‘Rak (樂) Music Festival,’ held at Gangbuk-gu Office Intersection.
