Reviewing the Installation of a Pedestrian Overpass to Improve Accessibility to Neighborhood Parks
Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 10th that Mayor Cho Gyu-il visited the pedestrian-only road located between City Pradium Phase 2 in Sinjinju Station area, Gajwa-dong, and Forena Apartment to listen to the difficulties faced by citizens using Eunhasu Elementary School and Hope Neighborhood Park.
Mayor Jo Gyu-il is requesting the installation of a pedestrian overpass in the new Jinju station area.
Currently, representatives of the residents of about 840 households in City Pradium Phase 2 and Forena Apartment are concerned that children from Eunhasu Elementary School have to cross a six-lane road back and forth to go to school or move around, making each day anxious. They are demanding the installation of a pedestrian overpass so that children can commute safely, as serious traffic accidents could occur.
Mayor Cho, who visited the site, stated, “In addition to creating a safe route for Eunhasu Elementary School children to go to and from school, I have instructed the relevant departments to review the installation of a pedestrian overpass including an elevator to improve the walking environment for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, and people with disabilities, and to enhance convenience for all citizens using Hope Neighborhood Park safely.”
A city official said, “We will strive to install a pedestrian overpass to ensure the safety of residents and children,” adding, “Since this requires a significant budget, we will first conduct a detailed design project this year to enable the pedestrian overpass to be installed in 2024.”
