Tied 49th at Masters Tournament 3R
Couples Tie for Most Consecutive Main Draw Appearances with Player
The "Golf Emperor" Tiger Woods (USA) made another piece of history at the Masters Tournament.
On the 8th (local time), Woods shot a 1-over-par 73 with 2 birdies and 3 bogeys in the second round of the 87th Masters (total prize money $18 million) held at Augusta National Golf Club (par 72, 7,545 yards) in Augusta, Georgia, USA. Woods successfully advanced to the third round, tied for 49th place (3-over-par 147). This marks his 23rd consecutive cut made at the Masters.

Woods has maintained a record of never missing the cut in the 23 Masters tournaments he has participated in since 1997. His 23 consecutive appearances in the final rounds tie the record for the most consecutive cuts made since the Masters was established in 1934. Besides Woods, Fred Couples (USA) made 23 consecutive cuts from 1983 to 2007, and Gary Player (South Africa) did the same from 1959 to 1982.
Woods was 2-over-par through the 11th hole of the second round the previous day, making it seem difficult to make the cut. However, in the remaining 7 holes played under heavy rain that day, he performed well with 1-over-par. Woods finished the second round with consecutive bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes, placing him tied for 51st at that time. Since the top 50 players (including ties) advance to the third round, one player with 2-over-par needed to drop to 3-over-par for Woods to move into a tie for 50th. At that moment, Justin Thomas (USA) slipped with consecutive bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes, allowing Woods to rise to a tie for 49th. In the following 7 holes of the third round, Woods lost 6 strokes and is currently in 54th place (9-over-par).
